Not Your Valentine’s Day Makeup

I didn’t want to do a Valentine’s day makeup because, to tell you the truth, I couldn’t care less about the holiday ?. It’s just I think it should be a celebration of love every day. And since I do love Love I decided to paint about something very personal.

Most of you don’t know that but I have been battling with chronic anxiety, stress, panic attacks, heart burns, acid reflux, irregular heart beats (and other pretty annoying things) for the past three years, almost every day. All this, I finally understood, is the result of my constant judging myself, not being kind, feeling ugly and never good enough. (Social media played a big part in this escalating self-loathing)

Anyhow, not loving yourself sucks and I’ve been working on regaining self-confidence and self-love for the past 2 weeks. I’m already seeing some improvement, especially on the stress level. Oh and that head of mine is more quiet ?

So if you too, have anxiety issues, know that you’re not alone and that you can change. You can.

This fight against myself is what inspired me today’s makeup and now let’s take a look at tutorial !

Step By Step

Here’s my usual pictorial for the look ; I will quickly break down the 9 steps but if you want to actually see how I did this makeup keep scrolling down until you find my youtube video ! =)

Step 1

Be your natural, beautiful self =)

Prep your skin with moisturizer

Step 2

For this step I put on foundation (more detail about the products at the bottom of the page), contouring (on my cheekbones), highlighter (on the cupid’s bow, chin, nose and cheeks) and a little bit of blush. I also did my eyebrows a little with a dark brown brow crayon because, unfortunately, due to excessive tweezing during adolescence lol, my eyebrows decided to stop growing … -_-

Step 3

For the eye makeup I wanted something simple and “natural” looking, say a bit nude but also glamorous with my favorite false eyelashes. I never wear eyelashes outside my youtube studio and “instagram life” but I do think they’re super gorgeous and make you look extremely feminine. Kinda like a girafe, super gracious right? =D Anyway, I used a nude palette for the eyes, black eyeliner, a brown pencil on the water line and my girafe lashes !

Step 4

To wrap up the beauty part I put on a nude lip crayon and added a glossy finish with the delipscious NYX #thisiseverything lip oil !

Step 5

For the bodypaint part I started by sketching the shape of the heart/cave with a white crayon.

For the colors I used my Makeup Revolution SFX Cream palette, set the paint with loose powder and then to reinforce the colors I applied matching eyeshadows starting with light yellow, pale orange, orange, red, fuschia and purple. I put a liiiiiittle bit of black in the outer corners.

Step 6

I did exactly the same on the lower part of the heart and added a white line to separate the sky from the ocean surface.

Step 7

Then with black eyeshadow I added a few mountains in the background, on both sides of the heart.

I added a shadow in the water with black eyeshadow. Then with a black eyeliner I painted a person (me?) sitting in the center of the cave, staring peacefully at the sunset. I also painted a few plants on the side, still with black eyeliner and to give the plants and the silhouette more dimension I highlighted them with a white liquid eyeliner.

Oh I almost forgot about the light reflection on the water. To create this effect I used an old sponge, dipped it in white paint (don’t put too much water) and tapped it over the surface of the ocean. It will create little wave-looking shapes.

Step 8

With black water-activated paint I filled in the area all around the cave entrance. This paint, by the way, is the best paint I’ve ever used so far. It has really good coverage, stays on without cracking and looks super matte !!! Amazing product by Superstar

Step 9

I finished the makeup by giving more dimension to the cave. To do so I added a thin yellow / white line over the upper part of the cave and for the inside I first put on white eyeshadow and then added random touches of white paint. All this makes it look like the sun is hitting the entrance of the cave and revealing the rock.

Sometimes pictures speak better than words… (especially in my case as I have a damn hard time explaining how I do things lol. I’m French so I don’t always have the right vocabulary ^^)

  1. Hi
I like your page it is good but i think you are very beautiful without makeup as well.
Your page is very good and the stages of putting makeup on and how you moisturize clearly you have gone into the idea of makeup a lot.
If this helps your anxiety that is great but i hope you do talk to people or a friend.
    Thank you for sharing.

    1. Thank you so much ! =) I prefer myself without makeup to be honest and almost only wear makeup for when I film my videos ^^

As for my anxiety, it’s getting better, one step at a time !

      Take care

    Hello Sarah

Thanks for your post about your make up. I watched the video and don’t know how you are able to do your own body paint. I would have never have imagined you could do so much with Eye shadows, liner, glitter, and other makeups.

1 How long does it last?

2 how hare is it to take it off?

    Best Regard

    1. Hi Audrey !

Thanks for stopping by =) The makeup took me about 5 hours and it didn’t last very long because I immediately took a shower after I was done lol.. but I could have worn it hours on I guess. I use a setting spray, which helps the makeup last longer.

It’s not very hard to take off, hot water, soap and rub that skin ! =)

      See you around !

      Love

This is both unique and very beautiful to read about.  I love the way you have used make up to present art in its purest form which breathes of life. Trust me, not everybody can achieve this. The process of achieving this too really makes it an interesting one. If I could Raye, I would rate this makeup the best of Valentine. Thanks for sharing this art

    1. Thank you very much, it means a lot !

Sarah, I really like your posts and your YouTube channel (I follow you there). I don’t think I’ll ever be able to make it what you do with makeup, but I’m ready to try. For starters, I’ll just try to make up my face like this. I know for sure that I am not capable of drawing that beautiful drawing on my chest.

    1. Hi there ! first of all thank you very much for the kind words, they mean the world to me. Second, you can do anything if you try hard and give it time! When I started my youtube channel I could barely paint anything honestly =) But practice makes perfect, or close enough lol

      Take care
