The Headless Horseman Makeup

Hey there !

Welcome to my Headless Horseman makeup tutorial! For this look I was initially inspired by Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow but then I started googling “headless horseman” and I stumbled upon these really cool artworks (1, 2, 3, 4) and I ended up mixing all that and created my own take on the headless horseman. I hope you’ll like it!

The pumpkin and axe are actually just cardboard and mehron paint. I love making my own props. It’s cheaper and I love looking at a sword or a shield and be like “omg it looks so real” =D

Step by Step

Whenever I do a makeup tutorial I always take 9  progress pictures because I just love looking at my normal self and then at the transformed final version ! So here are my 9 step by step pics! Hope they’ll come in useful if you try and recreate this look ! =)

Video Tutorial

I also made a video for this look ; just click the play button if you want to watch the full voice over tutorial.

Now if patience is not your strong suit, I made a much shorter, no voice over, fast forward tutorial =) click here if you’d rather watch this version!

One of the trickiest things for this look was to make the black paint on my face look less shiny. I still haven’t figured out how to get the result I wanted, obviously my face doesn’t perfectly blend with the black background but I partly blame it on my softbox (the light), which was really really bright when I shot this video, and partly on my lack of experience :p. Next time I’ll try and dim the light =). I did apply translucent lose powder on top of the black paint but it wasn’t enough to stop all the shining… so if you have any suggestions, feel free to share !!

And that’s about it for this makeup guys ! I hope you enjoyed it. Please let me know in the comments below ! =)
